About me

I am a Labour Councillor for Whitley ward, Reading and a lead member on the council.  I am also passionate about championing my community and serving Reading.

I became lead member for Adult Social Care in May 2013 and as such serve on the Policy Committee and the Adult Social Care, Children's Services and Education Committee (also known as 'ACE').

I chair the Older People's working group and also serve on the  Access and Disabilities working group, Reading's health and well-being board.

I have a particular interest in tackling poverty; support for the elderly and housing issues.  I also campaign and fund-raise for better support for rape and sexual abuse survivors.

I have been a school governor at Wilson Primary School, an outstanding local community school, (and the Pride of Reading  school of the year 2012) since 2008.

I previously was Lead Councillor for Housing and Neighbourhoods from May 2011 until May 2013 and also held the following positions:
  • Chair of the Safer Reading Neighbourhood Action Groups Forum
  • Member of the Community Safety Partnership Group
  • Member of the Audit & Governance Committee
  • I served on the Local Services and Performance Committee for Raglan Housing Association.
I was elected to the council in May 2010 and during my first year in opposition served on the Environment scrutiny committee.

Professionally I am a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA).  I trained while working in the finance department at a software firm and then worked as a professional trainer specialising in Business Ethics, Economics for Business, Management theory and Management Accountancy.

I was educated at state schools around the country as we moved several times when I was growing up before attending University, where I met my husband.

I have two small children born in 2010 and 2012 and my husband is now a teacher at a West Berkshire Comprehensive.  I live and, primarily, work in Reading.
