Reading Borough Council Press Release

THE Physical Disabilities and Sensory Needs Network (PDSN) is helping people with disabilities learn about welfare rights and benefits at a free information event.

Experts from Reading Borough Council and other organisations, including the Department for Works and Pensions, will be on hand to give advice about different allowances and benefits at the event next week.

Subjects covered will include the impact of welfare reforms, council tax support, housing benefits, carers allowance and universal credits.

There will also be a chance for attendees to have their say on matters such as the council's proposed budget savings over the next three years.

The Welfare Rights and Benefits session will take place in the Council Chamber, Civic Offices, Bridge Street, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, on Wednesday 14th October.

Councillor Rachel Eden, Reading's lead councillor for adult social care, said:

"Welfare rights and benefits are complicated and changing but it's important that we make sure that people with disabilities get the right support as they play a key part in allowing residents to live fulfilling lives in their community.

"This session will be a great way for people to find out more about this important area in a more informal and supportive environment."

The PDSN Network is an organisation made up of adult social care service users, carers, representatives from national charities and local user-led organisations. Their aim is to improve the quality of life for people with physical disabilities, neurological conditions and sensory loss.

British Sign Language interpreters will be available for the whole event.
