#rdg #rdguk Council Tenants Group best in South - and that's official!

Congratulations to the TACT group!  Before I moved away from the housing brief this relatively new group had just presented it's first report to council officers and me.  Since then they have gone from strength to strength, and winning an award for the whole Southern Region is well deserved.  It's a great example of how Reading's council tenants have pride in their communities and are volunteering their time to make Reading a better place for everyone.

Reading Borough Council Press Release

A VOLUNTARY group that works in partnership with Reading Borough Council to improve tenant services in Reading have had their work recognised at an awards event in London on 14th February.

TACT (Tenants and Council Together) are the proud winners of the award in Excellence in Tenant Scrutiny, awarded by the Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS).

The Reading scrutiny panel reviews tenant issues and recommends improvements. Recent work has focussed on the appearance of estates, antisocial behaviour and the impact of Welfare Reform on tenants, with recommendations including the provision of better cleaning equipment and a review of housing leaflets and other communications to tenants about anti-social behaviour.

As Southern Region winners, TACT has now been shortlisted for the national awards, taking place in Manchester later in the year.

TACT member Pat Watson says:

“We are so pleased to win this award. It’s a very exciting time for TACT and we have worked really well together as a team. We are looking forward to carrying on our work with the Council to improve services for all tenants.”

Lead Member for Housing, Cllr Richard Davies said:

“I would like to congratulate TACT on winning this prestigious award. It reflects the amount of hard work and dedication shown by the scrutiny panel to continually drive up standards and make Reading a better place to live for everyone.”
