I think the best way for the council work better with our tenants (and I've blogged about this a number of times) is for the housing service to keep building a close relationship with our tenants, many of whom are already very involved in the service. I hope everyone interested in taking part in any tenant activities come along to one of the open days and speak to either a staff member or a tenant.
Reading Borough Council tenants are being encouraged to make a real difference to their local community by volunteering this New Year as part of the 'Tenant Power you CAN make a difference' campaign.
Council officers and current tenant volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions at two open day events on 19th and 24th of January, at the Town Hall. Residents interested in volunteering will be able to get information on flexible activities such as mystery shopping, joining residents' associations and taking part in one of the Council's working groups.
Tenants who get involved will receive training and support, and will be encouraged to take part in the Council's Tenant Academy, a free 12 week course which enables them to gain in-depth knowledge of the housing service and gain a City & Guilds qualification.
Council staff and tenants will also be manning a recruitment stand in Broad Street Mall on Wednesday 9th January, from 10am to 4pm, where they will be giving out promotional leaflets for the open days and encouraging people to sign up for different activities.
