The two previous housing information days that the Council has hosted have been very popular and with pressure on housing in Reading continuing to rise, I expect this to continue. It's important for people to have access to all of the information they need to make informed choices about their housing options and I believe this event will be of real use. The council can't completely reverse the problems that the economic problems in much of the country and the welfare crisis is causing for our housing in Reading but we are doing all we can to mitigate it, this is just one example.
Council info below:
The event - organised by Reading Borough Council's Housing Needs department - will include information stands in the Council Chamber from 11am to 6pm, along with representatives from the Council's Housing Team and agencies such as Community Savings and Loans (Berkshire Credit Union) and Catalyst Housing Association, who will be providing information about shared home ownership opportunities.
Anyone who wants to find out more about their housing options is welcome, whether they are interested in renting or buying. With the high and increasing demand for housing in Reading it is expected to be a popular event.
There will be advice on moving into private rented accommodation, changes to housing benefit and repairs on current properties. There will also be information on applying for sheltered accommodation, downsizing your property and how to bid for Council and Housing Association properties using Reading's Homechoice scheme.
It is important to note the Council will not be able to discuss individual housing cases at this event. If you wish to discuss your personal circumstances, please call the housing advice service on (0118) 937 2165..
